Louise Russo WAVE Empowering Youth Day 2016

"Believe you can make a difference. Be respectful, be responsible and be a role model.

Your actions will create WAVES!" — Louise Russo

8th Annual W.A.V.E. Empowering Youth Day

Gluckstein Lawyers are looking forward to the upcoming 8th Annual W.A.V.E. Empowering Youth Day; a day that recognizes youth in our community who have made strides in making their schools safer.

Since inception, this event has granted over 75 youth and leadership awards to youth across Ontario. Gluckstein Lawyers are proud Youth Award Sponsors each year and will be attending this year's event.

Honouring Exceptional Young People

Also known as The Louise Russo Youth Awards, each year this event recognizes exceptional young people in our community with awards and bursaries to help support their initiatives of making their schools and communities safer places to live and play.

"The Louise Russo Youth Awards recognize youth that exemplify the 3R's - Respect, Responsibility and the Role of leadership through initiatives that reduce violence in their communities. The Award celebrates and honours the qualities that are important in making our communities a safe place to live, learn and play."

Speaker Highlights

With over 2500 students and educators in attendance, this year's guests will enjoy motivational speakers, performers and much more.

Carol Todd

Carol established the Amanda Todd Legacy in honour of her daughter Amanda. The Amanda Todd Legacy focuses on the awareness and prevention of bullying; cyber abuse; internet safety as well as mental wellness education. Her story brought worldwide attention to the consequences of cyberbullying, and the need to address bullying in our schools.

Sara Westbrook

Motivational Speaker; you are the 'U' in UPOWER. Your choices, not your circumstances, define who you are. Through UPower, students learn the skills to think and act beyond emotions, to build confidence and respect, which allows them to more effectively bounce back from challenges.

The Louise Russo Story

On April 21, 2004, Louise Russo's life changed forever. On that day, Louise became an innocent victim of senseless violence, when she was shot in a drive-by shooting. A single bullet shattered her spine and left her paralyzed. Being the courageous individual she is, Louise was determined to turn this experience into something positive, by dedicating her life to making her community a safer place to live. The fearless mother of three turned tragedy into triumph and established the Louise Russo W.A.V.E. (Working Against Violence Everyday), a not-for-profit organization that educates and empowers youth to make a difference in their community.
