Settlement Reached in Injury Case Handled by Gluckstein Lawyers

In 2008, a single-car accident in Wilmot Township took the life of a 17-year-old girl and seriously injured a 17-year-old boy. The young man suffered a severe brain injury and needed numerous surgeries and rehabilitation. Modifications were also made to his home to provide the ongoing care he needs.

The young man was later convicted of careless driving in connection with the crash. The court found that he was speeding on Wilmot Line, the gravel road where the accident occurred.

In a lawsuit against the township, Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers represented the man's family, who believe that the township's failure to properly maintain the road was a factor in the crash. In particular, the family believe that the crash might not have happened or the injuries might have been less severe if proper road signs had been in place.

The lawsuit was recently settled, and the family was awarded $1.5 million. The case was complicated by the fact that the young man was found guilty of careless driving. As Charles Gluckstein discussed in a news report about the case, the settlement is not expected to fully cover the extensive care needed by the injured man. Given the careless driving conviction, compromise was necessary to arrive at a sum that will cover some of the costs incurred by the man's family.

Since the accident, the township has placed more signs on the gravel road where the crash occurred.

When multiple parties are responsible for serious injuries suffered in a car accident, the practical aspects of proving liability can be overwhelming for the injured person's family. The help of legal professionals is often necessary to hold responsible parties accountable.
