Protect your rights. If you have been seriously injured, taking these steps immediately will protect you and your loved ones.
- Contact the proper authorities, such as the police.
- Note names of witnesses and people involved in the accident.
- Go see your family doctor about your injury.
- Record the names of all doctors and health care professionals who participate in your care in relation to your accident. Remember to include the dates of your visits.
- Keep receipts of all expenses related to your accident, such as medication; replacement clothing; assistive devices,
- Caregivers, such as family members or friends, should record their time spent participating in your care.
- Collect any insurance plans information that you may have rights to claim against, such as auto insurance, accident insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, etcetera.
- Be aware: Anything you say to your insurer could be used against you in determining your entitlement to benefits. Speak to a lawyer first.

Critical Timelines
