CPD Accredited Webinar: The Past and Present Roles of a Children's Aid Society in the Investigation, Assessment, and Treatment of Child Sexual Abuse with Andy Koster

Jellinek Ellis Gluckstein Lawyers' 2nd Annual Supporting Survivors of Sexual Abuse Conference: Innovative and Emerging Pathways to Healing took place using a hybrid model, on November 29, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Jellinek Ellis Gluckstein Lawyers employs a survivor-centred approach, recognizing the unique needs and challenges survivors face. Our lawyers work daily to create a safe and supportive environment where survivors can share their stories and seek guidance without judgment. This event is another way to help make the voices of survivors heard and find ways to support them on their journey forward.

Allegations concerning the sexual abuse of children have always meant that Children's Aid Societies were required to intervene. However, an examination of the field over the last sixty years has shown that this required intervention has not always been done consistently or appropriately when we compare it to what we know is required today. The Past and Present Roles of a Children's Aid Society in the Investigation, Assessment, and Treatment of Child Sexual Abuse, presented by Andy Koster, shows how C.A.S.'s intervention has changed over the years looking at Ontario's child welfare system in ten-year intervals. What should have been done at each period and why? It also describes some of the significant factors that have influenced the required procedures for the investigation and management of this highly traumatic form of abuse.

This presentation contains 30 minutes of CPD Accredited EDI Professionalism content.
