June 4, 2018 | rEcess year-end family BBQ and Volunteer appreciation event

rEcess is a free respite program that runs monthly serving families affected by disability. Brenda Agnew is a member of the board at rEcess, as parent to a child with Cerebral Palsy. The idea behind rEcess is for parents to bring their child with special needs and their siblings to the program where they are dropped off for the evening and this allows parents a much needed break. With rEcess they can go out on a date and reconnect knowing their children are in safe, trained and capable hands having fun and spending time with other children. Gluckstein Lawyers was proud to sponsor their year-end family BBQ and Volunteer appreciation event.

Take Care Kits Initiative

TakeCare is a Toronto-based non-profit organization that runs on the generosity of the community at large and corporate donors. 100% of all donations received are put towards the Parent Comfort Kits. Parents caring for a child unexpectedly admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Paediatric Department do not have the time nor energy to ensure their own needs are met. The Parent Comfort Kits that are created and donated contain toiletries and personal care items to hospitals across Ontario in order to support self-care and wellness for parents going through an emotionally difficult time. We were first introduced to the initiative through our involvement with Handful Hearts and Gluckstein Lawyers were thrilled for the chance to be involved further.

Why WAVE Empowering Youth Day Matters to Me

1995, San Diego, USA |

"When I interned with the San Diego District Attorney Office in 1995, I saw how the juvenile court interacts with youth at risk. I learned early on in my legal career the challenges of getting youth on the right track and the underlying factors for youth association with gangs. Unfortunately what they thought was a lifestyle choice became a short cut to crime and often premature, violent death. When I met Louise through her involvement with Spinal Cord Injury Canada and heard her story, I was thrilled to be able to support her cause." — Charles Gluckstein
