13 Jan Autonomous Cars are here to STAY!
Volvo has announced their latest project featuring autonomous cars; it is called Drive Me Self-driving cars for sustainable mobility. This project has been launched in Gothenburg, Sweden and according to an article in Motor Authority these cars will be tested on public roads with non-autonomous traffic. This project has been developed by, Volvo, the Swedish Transport Administration, the Swedish Transport Agency, Lindholmen Science Park and the City of Gothenburg.
The goal of this project is to determine the benefits of autonomous driving. In this article, it outlines the benefits Volvo believes this technology is capable of in addition to driver safety, improving emissions in city centres, alleviating traffic, and making driving more relaxing. They go on to explain,
Drivers will, in future, be able to plan their journeys based on a mix of manual and autonomous driving, making trips more efficient and allowing you to manage your time better or even just relax when you hit traffic or the freeway. And of course, when you get to your destination, the car will park itself too.
The idea of autonomous cars may seem futuristic however, they appear to be closer than one would think, with Volvo anticipating their arrival in 2017. Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers believes that any auto advancement that improves driver safety and lowers rates of accident frequency and severity is positive and something we should be moving toward.
