14 May Reflecting on our Compassion Fatigue 2019 Conference
Written by: Gluckstein Lawyers
The heart of what we do lies in caring for one another.
Compassion has always been at the heart of what we do at Gluckstein Lawyers, and so it would only be fitting that we endeavour each year to offer a full day conference designed around Compassion Fatigue.
It is an event that is all about giving back to so many of the incredible individuals who work tirelessly every day to care for others, whether in a professional capacity as nurses, or social workers or family mentors, or a personal one as a parent or caregiver.
Thank you for another wonderful year of support and learning together.
Our 2019 event was held on Thursday, May 9th and we were so grateful to have had a packed room of dedicated and committed attendees, and as one person commented: “you could feel the energy as soon as you walked into the room”.
The morning opened with the sharing of personal stories and real-life experiences from Michelle Earle and Brenda Agnew, followed by a presentation from Shelly Neal and Debbie Sutherland who spoke enthusiastically to the group about the incredible and impactful program that they run that offers free respite opportunities for parents. We wrapped up with another insightful presentation from Dr.Parmjit Singh, who was back again due to popular demand, about empathy and compassion and how our brains react to each and how we can learn to manage our emotions.
Lunchtime carnival activities provided an excellent opportunity for fun and networking, as our guests laughed and connected while playing for special prizes before enjoying a great meal.
Our afternoon was spent with our keynote speaker Amy Cunningham, and we were all interactive and thought-provoking opportunity to talk about caregiver burnout, self-help strategies, the reasons behind why we respond to things the way we do, and how we can take care of ourselves while still taking care of others.
We also had our adorable Gluckstein Bear on each of our tables with a selfie stick and a sign encouraging our guests to take some pics with their tablemates and our bear throughout the day for a contest, and we all had a great time checking out the pictures at the end of the day.
It was a day that won’t soon be forgotten, and we are so thankful for the great lineup of speakers and a fantastic audience who made it all worthwhile!
Here are what some of our attendees had to say:
