A recent report by Castlegar News states that a recent civil lawsuit granted a former Greater Victoria student $2.3 million in damages for enduring childhood sexual abuse by a tutor.

Justice Simon Coval's decision on Jan. 29 acknowledged the lasting harm, stolen youth, and long-term impacts. The awarded amount covered pain and suffering, impact on past and future earnings, and future care.

Jellinek Ellis Gluckstein Senior Counsel, Simona Jellinek comments, “This case shows that judges are recognizing the devastating impact of childhood sexual abuse on a survivor’s life and ability to work.”
