October 10 : Play Your Part In World Mental Health Day

One in five people around the world will experience some form of mental illness at some point during their lifetime. It may be a friend, a family member or it could be you. Whether it surfaces in depression, anxiety, schizophrenia or some other form, there’s no shame in having a mental illness. Every human deserves dignity, care, support and access to treatment. That’s the message that communities around the globe are spreading this week during Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW).

Flash Mob Dance To Celebrate The Day

Running from October 2nd to 8th this year, MIAW is an annual global movement that will culminate in World Mental Health Day next Monday, October 10th. At noon local time that day, Clubhouses – the local recovery centers that support those living with mental health – will be holding flash mob dances in various cities across the country. Here in Toronto, you can join in the fun with the gang from Progress Place Clubhouse when they dance it up at the corner of Yonge and Dundas.

Raise Awareness. Eliminate Stigma.

The purpose of MIAW is to educate the public on the reality of mental illness. The more people know about it, the faster traditional stigmas can be broken down. Ultimately, sufferers stand to benefit significantly – more willingness to seek treatment and being better understood and supported by those around them.

Organizers worldwide are already holding numerous fundraising events. Posters, brochures, bookmarks and other tools are being shared to give the message the greatest publicity. Gluckstein Lawyers encourages you to play your part.

Show your support. How will you support Mental Illness Awareness Week?
