Mark your calendars as on May 6th, 2014 it is the 6th Annual W.A.V.E. Empowering Youth Day! Also known as The Louise Russo Youth Awards, each year this event recognizes exceptional young people in our community with awards and bursaries to help support their dreams for future education.

Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers sponsor this event every year, and each year this event continues grow and increases exposure. The Louise Russo Youth Awards recognize youth that exemplify the 3Rs Respect, Responsibility and the Role of leadership through initiatives that reduce violence in their communities. The Award celebrates and honours the qualities that are important in making our communities a safe place to live, learn and play.

If you know an exceptional young person you would like to nominate between the ages of 12 to 19, who is currently enrolled in School or equivalent education programs and who you believe has made a difference, please submit an application for the Louise Russo Youth or Leadership Award.

This fun filled day has speakers and performers such as;

  • The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario
  • our returning emcee, Rick Campanelli, Globals co-host ET Canada
  • Diane Dupuy, President & Founder Famous PEOPLE Players
  • LaToya Rodney, former gang member, counsellor, rap artist and mother
  • Mixed Company Theatre, engages students in active problem solving, through socially relevant and interactive drama
  • Mark DeMontis, who overcame his challenges when he was declared legally blind at age 17
  • Danny Fernandes, Canada's next true superstar, is an MMVA winner and JUNO Award nomineed
  • Kendra Fisher, Team Canada Womens Hockey program, was forced to walk away from her dream due to a severe Anxiety Disorder. Kendra now brings Mental Health Issues to the forefront.
  • Anthony McLean, Founder of iEngage, a bullying prevention program, has uses his skills as an actor and rapper to inspire students to be a positive influence in their schools.
  • Jamaal Magloire, Big Cat Magloire, a twelve-year veteran of the NBA, Provides children in Scarborough with the opportunity to play and compete amongst the Ontario Basketball Association.
  • Kreesha Turner, Has been dubbed the Canadian Rihanna. Sharing the stage with the likes of Katy Perry, Shirley Bassey and Lady Gaga, Kreesha an R&B/pop singer/songwriter.
