In June of 2009, Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers proudly sponsored the renovation of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre's C5 Patient Lounge. The Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers Visitor Lounge is named as such in recognition of our firm's donation to the hospital towards the expansion of the new Trauma, Emergency and Critical Care facility.

New World-Class Centre for Spinal Trauma

The July 2010 issue of Bayshore Home Health Magazine featured an article regarding Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for Spinal Trauma. It is well-known that Sunnybrook is a leader in caring for spinal cord injuries and now is furthering that status with its new world-class Centre for Spinal Trauma. The goal is "to provide unmatched care while seeking a cure." It is Canada's largest centre for orthopaedic surgery. The centre's leading surgeon is Dr. Joel Finkelstein, a spinal surgeon and Section Head of Sunnybrook's Division of Orthopaedics as well as an Associate Professor in the University of Toronto's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. A multidisciplinary committee will determine how the Centre will be run.

"What I see as the big thing is the collaboration from acute care to rehabilitation...For someone with SCI, it's a major change in their quality of life and way of life, and there needs to be more than just physical management of it- there must be education and social support for patients and families, and that's something we can improve through a stronger teamwork type of approach."
-Dr. Finkelstein

It is hoped that a portion of money raised for this new Centre will go to support a scientist to carry on spinal injury research and raise awareness of spinal trauma. One of the goals is also to ease the initial sense of anxiety and helplessness that newly injured people feel.

Gluckstein Lawyers is Here to Help

Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers recognizes that not all spinal cord injuries are the same. There is a great variation in the types of injury and the damage which can be the eventual result of a spinal cord injury (i.e. quadriplegia, paraplegia, complete or incomplete injuries). We are aware that the nature and severity of the injury will determine the acute and rehabilitative needs of the client.

It is crucial to select a high-quality rehabilitation program with skilled professionals to help a newly injured person develop the skills needed to maintain physical and emotional health throughout their lifetime. Our personal injury lawyers and rehabilitation team here at Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers can help answer your questions and make sure that you and your loved ones have access to first-rate care.
