Springtime Driver Safety Tips

When spring has sprung and the flowers are blooming, families are often inspired to go on road trips to get fresh air and see the sights. It's a time for family togetherness, but also a time to stay alert while driving. Once the snow and ice patches have melted, drivers may become less conscious of road safety. Our post this week provides some spring driving tips to help safeguard you and your loved ones from harm.

Exercise patience

As more people will soon be heading outside during spring, make extra sure to watch out for pedestrians and cyclists. It's important to:

  • Always remain alert to your surroundings
  • Allow pedestrians to take their time crossing the street
  • Watch out for cyclists sharing the road with you

Take your time

In our fast-moving, technologically-connected era, many individuals tend to be in a hurry. However, it pays to slow down in order to prevent accidents. It's important to:

  • Plan ahead for your travel
  • Follow the speed limit
  • Research alternative routes before getting behind the wheel

Remove all distractions

Texting or talking on your smart-phone while driving is dangerous - and it's also illegal. Reduce the risk and wait until you're parked before using handheld devices.

Other activities that drivers should avoid while driving include:

  • Eating or drinking
  • Putting on make-up or shaving
  • Having an intense conversation with another occupant inside the car
  • Driving while tired and/or driving for hours without a break

Avoid aggressive drivers

If you spot aggressive drivers on the road, carefully try to avoid them.

Do:

  • Keep your eyes firmly on the road
  • Change lanes safely to get out of their way
  • If you need to call the police, try to safely pull over and stop on the side of the road before making the call to report the individual

Gluckstein Lawyers wishes you and your family a happy, healthy and safe spring driving season.
