Jane Gillett Award

The First International Paediatric Acquired Brain Injury Conference (IPBIS) will take place this September 16-18, 2015 in Liverpool, United Kingdom. Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers are excited to participate in this inaugural conference by attending and presenting the Jane Gillett Award, alongside the International Paediatric Brian Injury Society.

The Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation stated, "The Dr. Jane Gillett Award is presented annually to an individual or organization for their research to advance the cause of acquired brain injury in Canada." This award strives to honour Dr. Jane Gillett; an outstanding individual, by highlighting her philosophies and unique approach to addressing acquired brain injury. This year, the 2015 Jane Gillett Award will be presented at IPBIS.

Dr. Gillett was at the forefront of brain injury treatment, acting as a paediatric and adult neurologist. As founder and president of the International Pediatric Brain Injury Society, she greatly impacted both the local and international community with her dedication to acquired brain injury research.

We were privileged to work alongside Dr. Gillett and call her a friend. Our firm continuously strives to provide our clients with the highest level of support from the medical community and Dr. Gillett was that individual. She assisted many of our clients and as one of her colleagues stated, "The biggest loss is for the people with acquired brain injury who will never have her care."

Celebrate with Gluckstein in Liverpool

We are delighted to be attending this conference and presenting the Jane Gillett Award. In addition, we will be hosting a hospitality suite to celebrate Dr. Jane Gillett's legacy and in particular her contributions to the field of paediatric acquired brain injury.

If you are attending the IPBIS Conference please be sure you stop by our hospitality suite.

Jane Gillett was the founder of our program, the Pediatric Acquired Brain Injury Community Outreach Program (PABICOP) which remains a unique model of care for children and youth with ABI and their families. The basic tenets of her vision were to provide comprehensive and ongoing support, treatment and education for children and families within their communities. These ideals were a direct reflection of Jane as a person. She was an inclusive and supportive leader who was undeterred by traditional boundaries or convention. She reached out to others locally, nationally and internationally and many of her colleagues went on to become her friends. Her enthusiasm and love of PABICOP convinced many professionals and families that collaboration was a means for making change around the world.

We are honored to continue Jane's vision in PABICOP and we are especially honored to have been her close friends. We miss her intelligence and passion for the brain injury field, her deep commitment to creating professional alliances, and the depth and warmth of her friendship. Jane’s generosity of spirit, both personal and professional was instrumental in creating The International Pediatric Brain Injury Society, and she would have been so proud of the efforts continued by her global colleagues. Although we are unable to attend the inaugural IPBIS conference, we are absolutely thrilled to see Jane's dream realized and to see her contributions recognized through this award.
