King Clancy Humanitarian Award

The King Clancy Award was established in November, 1986 by the Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons to commemorate the contributions of King Clancy as an inspirational humanitarian.

The Award is presented to distinguished Canadians who have made significant contributions in assisting disabled citizens to achieve a more rewarding lifestyle. Through their efforts, these individuals have helped to increase public awareness about the potential of disabled people; and, inspired others to become active and contributing members of society.

Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons is pleased to announce that Bernard L. Gluckstein will be honoured with the presentation of the King Clancy Award at the 30th Great Valentine Gala to be held on February 8, 2014 at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel, Toronto.

Over the past 52 years, Bernard has been a staunch advocate for the disabled, donating his time and expertise in the area of disability to numerous organizations such as Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (formerly Canadian Paraplegic Association Ontario),Variety Village, Canadian Games for the Physically Disabled, the Paralympic Games, and many others. Bernard is also one of the founding Directors of the Ontario Brain Injury Association, which was formed to enhance the lives of Ontarians living with the effects of acquired brain injury through education, awareness and support.

In addition to his work with Paralympians, and his support of many other athletes with disabilities, Bernard was part of the team that raised $1,000,000.00 for the construction of the Sunshine Indoor Pool at Variety Village.

The firm, Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers (formerly Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers), is a lead sponsor of many annual conferences, symposia and social events for associations and foundations connected with disability. For 30 years the Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons has dwelled on the abilities of people with disabilities by establishing the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame, Rolling Rampage on the Hill for the world's fastest wheelchair athletes and initiating many projects like the Canadian Helen Keller Centre, Rotary Cheshire Homes for the deaf, blind and the Why Not Marathon.
